The CanBus generation of BMW bikes are getting older and older now, and time starts to show it’s effects on them.
One of the few issues that can occur in these bikes is the fuel pump controller. Signs of a bad fuel pump controller (named FPC from now onwards) are various, like:
- The engine turns over but does not start
- Intermittent surging like functioning while running the bike, similar to fuel starvation
- Hard to start engine
- Poor engine functioning; this can be hard to observe, as the OEM controller can fail gradually, over years
Another issue with the OEM FPC is the poor design in respect to the sealing between the fuel pump body and the OEM FPC.
That is why, I came up with this solution, where a beefy O-ring (provided with the FPC) is placed between the case and the 3D printed case of the FPC I make. This way, water no longer leaks under it and shorts out the fuel pump terminals!
This part is plug and play, having connectors at both sides.
It replaces the OEM unit for the following bikes:
K25 (R 1200 GS) -> (12/2002 — 12/2012)
K25 (R 1200 GS Adventure) -> (03/2005 — 07/2013)
K25 (HP) -> (08/2004 — 11/2008)
K26 (R 900 RT, R 1200 RT) -> (11/2003 — 06/2014)
K27 (R 1200 R) -> (11/2005 — 07/2014)
K28 (R 1200 ST) -> (05/2003 — 11/2007)
K29 (R 1200 S, HP2 Sport) -> (11/2004 — 07/2010)
K21 (R nineT) -> (01/2013 — 08/2016)
K40 (K 1200 S, K 1300 S) -> (04/2003 — 09/2015)
